Opening Hours Punctuality and Attendence
At Hatton, we work in close partnership with families to ensure our pupils have a calm, supportive start to their day. Below you will find our regular school day timings, transport details, and guidance on how we manage medical absences
Our School Day Timings
8:30am - 9:00am | The "Soft Start"
We operate a welcoming, relaxed arrival period from 8:30am. This allows our pupils, including those arriving from Redbridge Transport, to transition calmly into the school day before official registration at 9:00am.
2:30pm - 3:00pm | Home Time
We begin supporting our pupils out to their local authority buses or to meet parents at the main gates from 2:30pm. This transition takes time to ensure everyone leaves safely by 3:00pm.
Managing Absences & Medical Needs
If your child is unable to attend school due to illness, please contact the school office on the morning of their first day of absence
Medical and Dental Appointments
Given the complex profiles of many of our pupils, we know that hospital, therapeutic, and special medical appointments are unavoidable during school hours. Where possible, please try to book routine appointments during school holidays; if an appointment must happen during the day, just provide a copy of the appointment letter to the office so we can authorise time away.
Supporting Long-Term Health Needs
If your child is regularly absent due to ongoing medical treatments or frequent illnesses, please let us know. Our school nurse and leadership team will work directly alongside your family to create a supportive plan.
(Please note that for absences extending past 5 days, we kindly ask for a copy of a prescription or GP note to authorise the leave)
We Are Here to Support You
Understanding "Bad Nights"
We know that sleep difficulties are a real part of family life for many of our pupils. If you have had an exceptionally difficult night, please don't let the fear of a late mark keep your child home entirely. Reach out to us, getting them to school for a partial day is always preferred, and our staff are here to support them through their tiredness.
School Reluctance
If your child is showing signs of being reluctant to attend school, please contact your class teacher or our Family Support Team immediately. We want to work together as a team to uncover the root cause and put positive transitions in place.
Holidays in Term Time
To ensure consistency for your child's learning and routine, we strongly discourage term-time holidays. Because the local authority sets strict statutory guidelines regarding term-time leave, all exceptional travel requests must be submitted to the Headteacher in writing well in advance for consideration.

While we celebrate excellent attendance, we look at every child's record individually, taking into account any unavoidable medical journeys or health factors.
