PROUD of The Hatton Way; Learning, Growing, Achieving Together

Midday Support Assistant Vacancy

Starting Date: April 2023

Are you looking for change and a new challenge? Would you like to use your excellent skills to support pupils with complex needs who find it difficult to learn and who need passion, creativity and innovation to help them progress? We can offer you all of this and so much more at Hatton Special School.

Hatton is a large primary special school in the London Borough of Redbridge (outer London). Our pupils are aged 3-11 with a range of complex needs including autism, social communication difficulties, downs syndrome and other learning difficulties. The School was graded as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted in November 2018. Our pupils are amazing and work very hard to achieve small and big steps of progress over time. They are supported by a dedicated staff team and we stand by our ethos of “Learning, Growing & Achieving Together”; we value teamwork and support one another to develop. Although our staff are amazing and have developed some fantastic practices in working with our pupils, we do not sit back. We are continually striving to further develop the learning opportunities we provide for our pupils.

Currently we are seeking to recruit Midday Assistants. Applications are invited from enthusiastic, passionate individuals who have a genuine interest in working to support pupils with special educational needs to achieve the very best outcomes. The Midday Assistant post will require working with pupils across a broad spectrum of SEN, including pupils with ASD and challenging behaviour. Experience of working / volunteering with children and young people is desirable for this role and more specifically experience of special educational needs or disabilities is desirable. This is a physically active job; Midday Assistants daily duties involve manual handling strategies, engaging with our pupils in a positive way and supporting their personal care. You need to be conscientious, reliable, hard-working and be able to work on your own initiative as well as being able to support the team.

Hatton staff have access to:
• A carefully selected ‘Peer-buddy’ to support them when starting with us
• A commitment to ongoing professional development
• A well-resourced school
• Supportive and enthusiastic colleagues and governors
• Staff social events
• Well-being support

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This includes the need to become familiar with school policies immediately upon appointment and to follow the school’s procedures in relation to safeguarding.

This post is considered to be a customer-facing position; as such it falls within scope of the Code of Practice on English language requirement for public sector workers. The school therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the person  specification. These will be applied during the recruitment/selection and probationary stages. The school is committed to equality and diversity in employment practice and service delivery.

Offers of employment are subject to an enhanced DBS Certificate and other employment checks.
